CHILD FRIENDLY, ANIMAL FRIENDLY THINKING CREATES FUN AT THE NEW CHILDREN'S ZOO

Meerkats have been getting a lot of airtime on UK TV recently. But they don't often pop up in a signage brief, with pandas, pigs and llamas.

But that's exactly who we needed to cater for - along with every small human visitor when London Zoo invited us to design a signage scheme for their new Animal Adventure in Regent's Park.

Child friendly, animal friendly, environment friendly and fun. Those were our design criteria. And as anything too close to the animals was likely to get eaten or destroyed, the positioning, durability and flexibility of our solutions also made for some head-scratching! We chose natural wood and steel as the ideal material for our simple leaf form designs and easy-to-understand messages. Some are hand-carved in oak. Some are hand-painted on logs. And some we commissioned from sculptor Ben Radcliffe, his signature wireframe shapes in mild steel rod in wild colours.
